Frauen imaginieren sich als Fluss – so das Konzept von River Dreams. Regisseurin Kristina Mikhailova reist mit ihrem Filmteam entlang des kasachischen Flusses Aksay und spricht mit Frauen, die dort leben. Sie haben diverse Biografien sowie verschiedene Blicke auf ihr Leben als Frau. Dabei erzählen sie von ihren Träumen, Ideen und Solidarität mit anderen Frauen. So entsteht ein radikales und zugleich zärtliches Porträt eines Landes im Wandel, in dem das Patriarchat immer mehr hinterfragt wird.

Women imagine themselves as a river – the concept of River Dreams is simple. Director Kristina Mikhailova and her team travel across the Aksay River in Kazakhstan and speak to the women living there – about their dreams, life plans and attitude towards women rights. They all have different biographies as well as different perspectives on their lives as women. River Dreams is a portrait of a country going through multiple changes when it comes to patriarchy and women rights.
