Die Trump-Administration in den USA hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, den durch Exportsanktionen schon erheblich geschwächten kubanischen Sozialismus endgültig zu zerschlagen. Als Zeichen der Solidarität mit Kuba zeigt das Allerweltskino einen Film aus dem Jahr 1980, als auf der Insel in Teilen auch Mangel herrschte, aber die Bevölkerung dennoch mehrheitlich zu ihrem Gesellschaftssystem stand.
Einen Tag lang begleitete der Film die Arbeiterinnen und Arbeiter der Upmann-Zigarrenmanufaktur in Havanna durch ihren Arbeitsalltag und zeichnete ein ebenso liebenswertes wie informatives, aber Konflikte nicht aussparendes Porträt.
Was hier an Selbstbewusstsein, an Originalität, an Witz und Wärme, auch an produktiver Aggressivität sichtbar wurde, ließ das Leben in Kuba sehr komplex erfahrbar werden und verdeutlicht, was diese Insel zu verlieren droht.
La Administración Trump de EE. UU. se ha fijado el objetivo de acabar definitivamente con el socialismo cubano, ya considerablemente debilitado por las sanciones a la exportación. Como muestra de solidaridad con Cuba, el cine Allerwelts proyecta una película de 1980, época en la que en la isla también reinaba la escasez en algunos ámbitos, pero la mayoría de la población seguía apoyando su sistema social.
Durante un día, la película acompañó a las trabajadoras y trabajadores de la fábrica de puros Upmann en La Habana a lo largo de su jornada laboral y trazó un retrato tan entrañable como informativo, sin ocultar los conflictos.
La confianza en sí mismos, la originalidad, el ingenio y la calidez, así como la agresividad productiva que se hicieron visibles aquí, permitieron experimentar la vida en Cuba de una manera muy compleja y ponen de manifiesto lo que esta isla corre el riesgo de perder.
The Trump administration in the U.S. has set itself the goal of finally crushing Cuban socialism, which has already been significantly weakened by export sanctions. As a sign of solidarity with Cuba, the Allerweltskino is screening a film from 1980, a time when shortages were also prevalent in parts of the island, yet the majority of the population still stood by their social system.
For one day, the film followed the workers at the Upmann cigar factory in Havana through their daily work routine, painting a portrait that is as endearing as it is informative, yet does not shy away from conflicts.
The self-confidence, originality, wit, and warmth—as well as the productive drive—on display here made life in Cuba feel very complex and brought into sharp relief what this island stands to lose.
