EO, ein grauer Esel mit melancholischen Augen, begegnet auf seinem Lebensweg guten und schlechten Menschen, erlebt Freude und Schmerz, erträgt das Glücksrad, das sein Glück in Unglück und seine Verzweiflung in unerwartete Glückseligkeit verwandelt. Doch nicht einmal für einen Moment verliert er seine Unschuld.
Das Tier steht im Mittelpunkt von Jerzy Skolimowskis neuestem Film EO. Bild- und tongewaltig zeigt der 84-jährige mehrfach preisgekrönte polnische Regisseur die Welt aus der Perspektive eines grauen Nutztieres und folgt ihm auf seinem Lebensweg durch Europa mit freudvollen und schmerzhaften Begegnungen. In seinen Erlebnissen spiegelt sich die Welt in der wir leben. Skolimowski betrachtet den Film auch als eine Ode an die Natur.
EO hat 2022 beim Filmfestival in Cannes den Jurypreis gewonnen. U.a. mit Isabelle Huppert.
