Mehrere Jahre lang begleitete der Filmemacher Nantenaina Lova die Anstrengungen der Dorfbewohner:innen zur Verteidigung ihres Ackerlands. Der Dokumentarfilm WHERE ZEBUS SPEAK FRENCH zeigt den Kampf gegen Neokolonialismus und Korruption in einem Land, in dem das Erbe des Kolonialismus so tief sitzt, dass sogar die lokalen Zugtiere – die Zebus – gelernt haben, ihre Befehle auf Französisch entgegenzunehmen.

Not far from Antananarivo, the inhabitants of the village of Sitabaomba are threatened with eviction. The fertile land on which they live and work is now coveted by the ruling class, multinational companies and foreign investors. For several years, filmmaker Nantenaina Lova followed the villagers' efforts to defend their farmland. Les terres fertiles sur lesquelles ils vivent et travaillent sont désormais convoitées par la classe dirigeante, les multinationales et les investisseurs étrangers. Pendant plusieurs années, le cinéaste Nantenaina Lova a suivi les efforts des villageois pour défendre leurs terres agricoles.
