Afshin, so erklärt es ihm sein Vater, ist jetzt der Mann im Haus. Der Vater, ein Ex-Soldat, muss das Land aus Sicherheitsgründen verlassen. Der Teenager Afshin trägt nun die Verantwortung für das immer wieder undichte Hausdach, er muss die Einkäufe erledigen und den vertrockneten Baum wässern. Auf seinen kleinen Bruder Benjamin soll er auch Acht geben. Und über all dem hängt tief und malerisch der staubige Himmel Kabuls. Und es gibt Abas, den Busfahrer, der mit seiner Schuldenlast ringt und in den Drogenrausch flieht.
Regisseur Aboozar Amini gelingt ein impressionistischer Dokumentarfilm über drei Brüder und einen älteren Busfahrer aus Kabul, die er über eine längere Zeit in ihrem Alltag begleitet. Trotz der unübersehbaren Spuren der jahrzehntelangen Kriege strahlen der Film und seine Protagonisten Lebensfreude und Optimismus aus. Eine Hymne aufs Trotzdem, auch wenn der nächste Anschlag nur eine Frage der Zeit ist.
Afshin, his father explains to him, is now the man in the house. The father, an ex-soldier, has to leave the country for security reasons. The teenager Afshin is now responsible for the repeatedly leaking house roof, he has to do the shopping and water the withered tree. He is also supposed to look after his little brother Benjamin. And over all this hangs low and picturesque the dusty sky of Kabul. And there is Abas, the bus driver, who struggles with his debt burden and flees into a drug frenzy.
Director Aboozar Amini succeeds in making an impressionistic documentary about three brothers and an elderly bus driver from Kabul, whom he follows in their everyday lives over a longer period of time. Despite the obvious traces of decades of war, the film and its protagonists radiate joy of life and optimism. A hymn to a vivid “nonetheless”, even if the next attack is only a matter of time.
